Mark Michel, co-founder of The Archaeological Conservancy, started his career as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. where he was hired by the Society for American Archaeology to work on legislation to protect archaeological sites from rampant looting that was taking place across the United States, and particularly in the Southwest. That’s where his interest in archaeology began.
