The Pueblo Revolt of 1680 in New Mexico was the only successful native uprising against European colonial rule in the present United States and historians have long regarded it as a pivotal and extraordinary event. Editor Robert Preucel has brought together 14 scholars—archaeologists, anthropologists, and Puebloans—to provide us with new perspectives, based largely on archaeology, of the material culture instead of Spanish records. Only recently have archaeologists begun to explore revolt sites, and new information is becoming available every year.
