University of Texas Press 1996 reissue of a 1967 edition Book Summer 1997 Vol. 1 No. 2

Forrest Kirkland’s classic study of Texas rock art has been reissued in all its glory. Between 1934 and 1941, Kirkland, a Dallas artist, meticulously copied pictographs and petroglyphs at som 80 far-flung Texas sites. Anthropologist W.W. Newcomb, author of The Indians of Texas, provides the accompanying text. Since the book’s publication, man of the sites have been damaged or destroyed, making this volume one of the few remaining records. The first edition has been out of print for years and is now prohibitively expensive.
