SOUTHWEST SEMINARS | Bears Ears: Landscape of Refuge & Resistance

Presented by: Dr. Andrew Gulliford

Presenter bio: Professor of History and Environmental Studies, Fort Lewis College; Editor, Preserving Western History; The  Last Stand of the Pack: A Critical Edition; and Outdoors in the Southwest: An Adventure Anthology, which celebrated the  50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act; (recipient Arizona/New Mexico Book Award); The Woolly West; Colorado’s Hidden History of Sheepscapes; Sacred Objects and Sacred Places: Preserving Tribal Traditions; Boomtown Blues: Colorado Oil Shale, 1885-1985 (winner, Colorado Book Award); and America’s Country Schools. Gulliford is widely known for teaching popular courses on wilderness, national parks, Western history and environmental history. His book on Bears Ears, the subject of our talk tonight, is Finalist for Best Book in Utah History, Utah Historical Society. Recipient (2016) Aldo and Estella Leopold Residency, Tres Piedras, NM.
