Former professor, University of Wisconsin; Author, The Rediscovery of American: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of  U.S. History; (Winner of the 2023 National Book Award in Nonfiction);  Violence over the Land: Indians and Empires in the early American West (Winner, Frederick Jackson Turner Prize from Organization of American Historians for the most significant first book in American History); Book of the Decade Award, Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (for one of the ten most influential books in the first decade of the 21st Century).
